Tarmo Tukia
Tarmo Tukia is a Finnish Defense Force pilot who, on April 12, 1969, was directed by flight controllers at Pori Airport to investigate seven assumed air balloons during a Fouga Magister jet training mission. His observations during what became known as the Pori Airport UFO Incident represent the only UFO event officially acknowledged by the Finnish Air Force in its history.

The Pori Airport Encounter
During a training mission at Pori Airport, Tukia was ordered to investigate seven objects floating at 1,500 to 3,000 meters above the airport. Initially assumed to be air balloons, Tukia reported upon approach that the objects were not balloons but were disc-shaped and slightly round, described as "like balls with no extremities," and pale yellow in color.
As Tukia attempted to approach the objects, they accelerated away from him at great speed against a headwind of 180 km/h. The objects' ability to accelerate rapidly against strong headwinds indicated propulsion capabilities far exceeding conventional explanations like balloons or other atmospheric phenomena.
Radar Corroboration
Tukia's visual observations were independently corroborated by radar detection 200 km away in Vaasa, which tracked the seven objects after they rapidly accelerated away from Tukia's position. The radar data created an estimated speed of 3,218 meters per second, far exceeding any known aircraft capabilities of the era. A second pilot, Juhani Korhonen, also observed the objects and confirmed their anomalous shape and speed.
The combination of multiple pilot eyewitnesses, detailed visual descriptions, and independent radar corroboration made this incident sufficiently credible for official acknowledgment by the Finnish Air Force.
