Jerry Betters

Jerry Betters is a prominent Pittsburgh jazz trombonist who, on December 9, 1965, witnessed a military roadblock and the transport of an acorn-shaped object from the 1965 Kecksburg UFO Crash site. Betters' testimony is significant because he observed the craft on a flatbed truck at a distance before military personnel blocked his access, providing independent corroboration of witness Jim Romansky's and Bill Bully Bush's descriptions of the object.

The Sighting

On the evening of December 9, 1965, Betters was a young jazz musician returning from a gig in Pittsburgh. As he drove through the area near Kecksburg, Pennsylvania, he encountered a military roadblock. Before being stopped, Betters glimpsed a large acorn-shaped object sitting on a flatbed truck. He described it as metallic with a bronze or copper color.

Betters was immediately turned away by military personnel and not permitted to approach the object. He observed soldiers and personnel surrounding the truck and securing the area. The object matched descriptions provided by civilian witnesses who had seen the craft in the woods shortly after it crashed.

Credibility

Jerry Betters became a well-known and respected figure in the Pittsburgh jazz scene in subsequent decades, lending credibility to his account. His testimony was provided independently of other witnesses and was consistent with the physical descriptions of the craft documented by Stan Gordon and other investigators.

Betters represents one of the few witnesses who observed the object after it had been loaded for transport, providing evidence that a physical craft was indeed recovered from the Kecksburg woods and removed under military escort.
