Gino Cecchini

Gino Cecchini (full name likely Gino Cecchini, though archival records are limited) was an Italian astronomer who provided scientific support to the RS-33 (Gabinetto RS 33) group examining the craft recovered near Magenta, Italy in June 1933.

Role in RS-33

As the scientific consultant to the top-secret RS-33 commission, Cecchini would have been responsible for analyzing the physical and flight characteristics of the recovered bell-shaped object, assessing whether its properties aligned with known terrestrial technology or represented something anomalous. His involvement suggests the Italian government sought expert astronomical and scientific analysis distinct from the military aviation expertise provided by Air Marshal Italo Balbo.

The RS-33 was led politically by Benito Mussolini, Galeazzo Ciano, and Balbo, with Cecchini serving alongside possible additional scientific support from Nobel laureate Guglielmo Marconi. According to original fascist-era documents, one of the RS-33's protocols required all UFO sighting reports to be forwarded to the central meteorological office at La Sapienza University in Rome, suggesting a scientific infrastructure was established to support the investigation.
