Arthur McQuitty

Arthur McQuitty was managing editor of the Roswell Morning Dispatch at the time of the 1947 Roswell incident. He is relevant to Roswell historiography because he later signed an affidavit confirming receipt of Lieutenant Walter Haut's original press release announcing recovery of a "flying disc," followed by a retraction call from military authorities.

Press-Chain Corroboration

McQuitty's account supports the claim that the Roswell information cycle changed rapidly within hours: first an official military statement implying recovered anomalous craft, then a coordinated reversal to a weather balloon explanation.

Historical Importance

As a civilian newsroom witness rather than a military insider, McQuitty provides cross-domain corroboration for testimony from Walter Haut, Jesse Marcel, and Thomas J. DuBose.
