Galeazzo Ciano

Galeazzo Ciano, Count of Cortellazzo and Buccari (1903–1944) was an Italian diplomat and politician who served as Foreign Minister of Fascist Italy from 1936 to 1943 under his father-in-law, dictator Benito Mussolini. Ciano married Mussolini's daughter Edda Mussolini in 1930, cementing his position within the fascist inner circle.

RoleItalian Foreign Minister

Role in RS-33

Due to the strict information control exercised by the fascist propaganda machine of the Agenzia Stefani, which covered all government communications outside the highest authorities, Ciano was among the very few officials read into the top-secret RS-33 (Gabinetto RS 33) group examining the craft recovered near Magenta, Italy in 1933. Along with Mussolini and Air Marshal Italo Balbo, Ciano formed part of the political leadership overseeing the program, while scientific support was provided by astronomer Gino Cecchini and possibly Guglielmo Marconi.

Ciano's direct involvement is confirmed by his explicit naming in fascist UFO sighting documents from the post-Magenta period, though his famous wartime diaries make no mention of the RS-33 — likely due to the program's extreme classification level.

Connection to US Recovery

Researcher speculation exists around a potential connection between Ciano's wife Edda Ciano (Mussolini's daughter), Allan W. Dulles, the Ciano Diaries, and Operation Sunrise as a possible front or facilitating mechanism for the U.S. recovery of the Magenta craft from the collapsing fascist state in 1944-1945, though this research remains exploratory.

Death

Ciano was executed by firing squad in January 1944 following his involvement in the Gran Council of Fascism vote that deposed Mussolini in July 1943.
