Roberto Pinotti

Roberto Pinotti is an Italian ufologist and aerospace researcher who brought the 1933 Magenta, Italy UFO crash/retrieval case to international attention in 1996 through his receipt and publication of original Italian fascist-era government documents related to the incident.

Receipt of Magenta Documents

In 1996, Pinotti was contacted by an anonymous source who identified himself only as "Mr. X" — later described as an Italian senator who claimed to have inherited the documents from a family member who worked on Benito Mussolini's alleged UFO program, the RS-33 (Gabinetto RS 33). The materials provided to Pinotti consisted of:

  1. Three classified Italian government telegrams sent by the Agenzia Stefani state propaganda agency on June 13, 1933, ordering absolute press silence about the craft landing, threatening maximum penalties for journalists, and mandating that the incident be reported as a meteor.
  2. Internal protocol memorandums bearing the seal of the Kingdom Senate, outlining nine-step procedures for handling UFO crash retrievals, including immediate witness arrest, notification of the RS-33 office, dissemination control, and exclusion of scientific bodies from examination — procedures strikingly similar to later U.S. protocols like USAF Regulation 200-2 and the alleged Majestic 12 operating framework.
  3. Handwritten notes and drawings describing UFO encounters observed over Italy between 1933 and 1940, including cigar-shaped craft and disc-shaped objects with domes.

Document Authentication

Pinotti took a skeptical, rigorous approach to validating the materials. He commissioned forensic analysis by experts who confirmed the paper and ink dated to the 1930s period. Scientific consultant Antonio Agag stated publicly that "it can be stated with reasonable certainty that the sample examined and the subject of the appraisal can be considered original and therefore authentic."

Additionally, Italian researcher "low lab 5185" on Reddit provided corroborating analysis, noting that the writing style matched the futurism-era fascist communication conventions and providing template examples of authentic Italian government telegram formats from the 1930s that matched the documents' structure.

Impact on UAP Research

Pinotti's publication of these documents established the Magenta case as possessing what UAP researcher communities describe as a "rich paper trail" — making it one of the few pre-Roswell UFO retrieval claims supported by period documentation rather than solely testimonial evidence. The case was later referenced by UAP whistleblower David Grusch in his News Nation interview with Ross Coulthart and discussed by Luis Elizondo, who stated he personally viewed validated Mussolini documentation related to the craft recovery.
