According to UAP researchers and whistleblower testimony from David Grusch and journalist Christopher Sharp, Pope Pius XII allegedly back-channeled information about the 1933 Italian-held craft recovered under Benito Mussolini's regime to the United States. Sharp's 2021 article "All UFO Disclosure Roads Lead to Rome" detailed how the Pope reportedly became uneasy about the craft remaining in Italian possession as Italy allied with Nazi Germany, leading him to leak intelligence to American authorities.
