1st Battalion 228th Aviation Regiment

The 1st Battalion, 228th Aviation Regiment (1-228th Aviation) is a US Army aviation unit assigned to Joint Task Force Bravo, a US SOUTHCOM forward-based expeditionary task force. During the 1990s, the regiment was headquartered in Panama and Honduras and maintained a fleet of helicopters including CH-47 Chinooks. The 1-228th provided aviation support for SOUTHCOM operations throughout Central and South America, including counter-narcotics missions and support during the 1995 Peru-Ecuador border dispute alongside the US Army 7th Special Forces Group.

Theorized Role in the Peru UFO Crash Retrieval

UAP Gerb theorizes that CH-47 Chinooks from 1-228th Aviation were used to transport the DOE NEST retrieval team and their equipment to the 1997 Peru crash site. The 1-228th is favored as the helicopter source over the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment because of its provable CH-47 assets in the SOUTHCOM theater at the time. NEST's documented Department of Defense authority to commandeer military aircraft for emergency deployments supports this theory.
