DARPA Security And Intelligence Directorate (SID)

The Security and Intelligence Directorate (SID) is an internal support directorate at the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency responsible for the security of DARPA's high-risk research and development portfolio. SID's mission encompasses information, personnel, industrial, and physical security across DARPA and its contractor sites, providing "risk-managed, proactive program protection" through embedded program security representatives (PSRs) who support DARPA's research portfolio spanning fundamental research, controlled unclassified information, collateral classified work, Special Access Programs, and sensitive compartmented information activities alike, rather than being siloed by classification category. SID's earliest documented reference dates to at least 2003. As a directorate reporting through the DARPA Director, SID's administrative accountability traces up to the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering (USD R&E).

Contractor Support

Since 2012, SID has maintained an ongoing security-services relationship with System High, a private counterintelligence and security firm, which has held consecutive multi-year SID contracts renewed in subsequent award cycles, including a renewal in 2022.

Alleged UAP Involvement

UAP Gerb's Special Access Required Vol.2 identifies DARPA SID as one of four "program protection" offices — alongside AFOSI/PJ, AFLCMC/IP, and DOE OICI — that the presenter alleges are deputized to enforce insider- and outsider-threat protection for legacy UFO program activity, functioning as "antibodies" within the Legacy Program Onion Model. The presenter states he is aware of former SID directors alleged to have engaged in serious crimes, including "wet works operations," to silence whistleblowers and prevent program exposure, though he declines to name the individual in question, and calls for congressional interrogatories directed at SID and its support services office. The video connects SID administratively to Peter Highnam via the USD(R&E) reporting chain.
