Hoia Baciu Forest, Romania

The Hoia Baciu Forest (Romanian: Pădurea Hoia-Baciu) is a forest located near Cluj-Napoca, Romania, widely described in popular paranormal culture as "the most haunted forest in the world." It has been the site of reported paranormal phenomena including disappearances, unexplained physical sensations, electronic malfunctions, and UFO sightings dating to at least the 1960s. UFO sightings in the 1960s included photographs of alleged craft over the forest's dense canopy.

Description

The forest covers approximately 250 hectares and is notable for a large circular clearing within it where vegetation does not grow. Locals report feelings of anxiety and nausea when entering the clearing, and electromagnetic anomalies have been reported by researchers bringing sensitive instruments into the area. The forest is named after a shepherd who disappeared with a flock of two hundred sheep within its boundaries.

UFO Reports

Photographs claiming to show UFO activity above the forest canopy were taken in the 1960s, though the authenticity and provenance of the images are contested. The forest has attracted UFO researchers and paranormal tourists in the decades since.

Assessment in UAP Research

The Hoia Baciu Forest is treated in UAP Gerb's discussion of Level 1 of the UFO Iceberg as a known curiosity within UFO culture but not a case with compelling evidence for non-human intelligence.
