Bukulpa, Peru
A location in the Loreto Region of northeastern Peru, approximately 300 miles from Lima, examined during the investigation of the 1997 Peru UFO crash retrieval case associated with USMC Lance Corporal Jonathan Weygandt. Bukulpa was considered as a possible location for the USAF detachment base supporting Operation Laser Strike but was ruled out based on travel time analysis.
Role in the Peru Crash Investigation
Researchers analyzing the logistics of Operation Laser Strike and the 1997 UAP crash near the Colombian-Brazilian border used travel distances and times to evaluate candidate locations for the USAF forward operating base from which personnel and equipment would have been staged. Bukulpa, at approximately 300 miles from Lima and deep in the Amazonian interior, was examined as a candidate but eliminated because the travel time from that location to the crash site — and from Lima to Bukulpa — was inconsistent with the documented response timeline.
Geographic Context
Bukulpa lies within the vast Loreto Region, Peru's largest department by area and one of the most sparsely populated, consisting almost entirely of Amazon rainforest. The region's river-based transportation network, limited road access, and remoteness from the Peruvian capital made it a logical consideration for a clandestine forward base, but also imposed travel time constraints that helped researchers narrow the likely staging location to Iquitos — the only city of significant size in the Loreto Region accessible by air.
