Solar Warden

Solar Warden is the name of an alleged classified United States military space-based operational program that, according to hacker Gary McKinnon, appeared in Pentagon computer files during his 2001–2002 unauthorized access of 97 US Army and NASA systems. If the documents McKinnon claims to have seen were genuine, Solar Warden would represent a secret space fleet operated by the US Navy Network and Space Operations Command (NNSO) — a fleet that includes multiple spacecraft, staffed by military personnel serving off-planet, operating entirely outside any publicly disclosed government space program.

McKinnon's Account

During his 2001–2002 hack of US military and NASA systems, Gary McKinnon claims to have found the following related to Solar Warden within Pentagon files:

  • A program explicitly labeled "Solar Warden."
  • A roster of approximately 300 military personnel listed as "non-terrestrial officers" — a term McKinnon interpreted not as referring to aliens, but as US military officers whose duty assignments were not on Earth, serving aboard spacecraft operating beyond the planet.
  • References to material transfers between vessels.
  • Two ship names bearing the prefix USSS (United States Space Ship, as opposed to USS): the USSS Hillenkoetter and the USSS LeMay.

McKinnon emphasized that these were not described as alien entities but as human military officers with off-planet assignments within a structured naval command framework.

Context and Corroborating Claims

Donna Hare, a former NASA contractor, separately alleged that NASA systematically airbrushed UAPs from high-resolution satellite imagery at Building 8 of Johnson Space Center — imagery that would overlap with any program involving space-based operations. Chris Mellon, a former senior intelligence official, has commented that classified 4K satellite footage of UAPs exists but has been suppressed, consistent with a broader infrastructure of classified observation and operations in space.

The program name is occasionally cited by researchers who believe that the UAP phenomenon includes the observation of classified human-operated spacecraft that witnesses mistake for non-human craft. Others cite Solar Warden as evidence of an advanced human space program developed in parallel to NASA's publicly known activities.

Status

Solar Warden has never been confirmed or acknowledged by any US government agency. McKinnon has consistently maintained the accuracy of his account. His credibility is bolstered by the confirmed facts of the hack itself — which US prosecutors verified was real and extensive — though the specific contents of the files he claims to have read cannot be independently verified.
